Rex T. Jackson has written a short biography of one of America's greatest engineers¨James B. Eads. Eads designed the inland ironclads that contributed to the capture of Forts Henry and Donelson early in the war. Latter in life he designed a bridge that would span the Mississippi River in St. Louis and opened the river to the gulf shipping trade.
